What is the difference between air line sizes?

In the automotive aftermarket, there are 3 common-size air lines: 1/4”, 3/8”, and 1/2”. The most commonly used size tends to be 1/4” because it is the easiest to route through the vehicle. Some people like the car to move from one position to the next faster than 1/4” can do (based on the flow rate and air spring volume/pressure requirements), so they tend to choose 3/8”.
